About
Vahagn Hamalbashyan grew up in an artistic environment, inheriting his love for art from his family. His work draws influence from nearly every historical period, spanning from ancient rock paintings to contemporary movements like pop art, graffiti and video art. These diverse influences merge to form the multi-layered nature of his artistic language.
Acrylic is his primary medium, chosen for its fast execution and ability to capture ideas spontaneously. Hamalbashyan thrives on experimentation, incorporating stencils, spray paint, markers and collages to construct dynamic compositions on canvas. He embraces unpredictability, allowing the process to shape the outcome, often leading to unexpected discoveries.
Hamalbashyan has exhibited widely, with solo shows at Pharos Arts Foundation in Cyprus and the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art.
His work has been featured in major group exhibitions, including Armenia Art Fair and Triumph Gallery in Moscow. He has participated in international biennales in Gyumri and completed residencies in Lithuania and the UK.
