About

Raluca Bararu builds a world where dark surrealism collides with the outlandish, where piercing imagery pulls at the edges of reality. Realism blends with local poetry, layering allusions to religion, women’s rights, animal rights and communist-era stories into a deeply personal canvas.

It’s serious, but never in a way that feels predictable. There’s an eerie, almost playful tension lingering between the bizarre and the uncanny.

Her work stretches from the subconscious to the finest tiny brushes, unraveling emotions – fear, pleasure, vanity, disgust, attraction, empathy, irony – all intertwined in a presence that is both strong and magnetic.

Bararu’s work has been exhibited internationally at Archenemy Arts in Philadelphia, Surreal Salon 15 in Baton Rouge and Fantastic Illustrations in Beijing, with Romanian showcases at Senso Gallery, One Night Gallery and Romanian Design Week.
